Let's Read! A Talk on Let's Play

Most of you reading this blog are more than familiar with GameGrumps. For those not in the know, two semi-famous internet personalities (JonTron and Egoraptor) have a joint channel where they play through games while commenting over them.

Oh, FYI? Never google image search Game Grumps. The shit people draw, man.

Though neither participant of the channel is willing to admit it, GameGrumps is an entry in the growing subcategory of gaming entertainment known as “Let’s Play”. The craft of Let’s Play (LP for short) is a fusion of attention-grabbing gameplay and entertaining commentary. It emulates the sensation of discovering and discussing a video game with a friend, while enticing you to play some video games yourself.

LPs have gotten quite popular over the years, for better and for worse. However, the success of the LP might prove to be its undoing. Let’s take a look at how LPs have achieved their current status, while speculating about where they may go next.

Kieran's Top 11 Movies of 2012

Hey everybody, Kieran here.
I've been slowly writing another blog post comparing the Pokemon anime to the Pokemon manga, but until that comes out I jotted down my list of the 10 best movies of 2012. Then I added another one.
Obviously, this is my list, and my list only.  When you take a look at it, you might notice some prominent films missing.  It is through that that I cement my street cred as being a preachy, obnoxious film snob that hates mainstream movies.
Also, I have not seen every movie of 2012.  So let me be upfront about that.
I have not seen the Hobbit, Lincoln, Argo, the Life of Pi, Les Miserables, or Django Unchained yet, so I don't know if those would be on this list. So this is just the best of what I've seen. At the end I'll do a quick honorable mentions list just to see what didn't make the list.
Anyway, just sick back, relax, read my list, and prepare your strongly worded emails about how bad my choices are.

The Mid Lane and You: Champions: Ahri

Hi everyone, welcome to another installment of TMLaY! Now that finals are almost done, I've had a chance to quickly write this up. I will be posting more frequently from here on out. This time, I will be covering Champions, more specifically ones that people should pick up when starting to learn the lane. In a future post I will go over a large variety of Champs, but for now I will stick with going in depth on these four: Ahri, Karthus, Morgana, and Talon.

The reason I am picking these four Champs specifically is that they each cover a different role in a team, and by picking up these four you can cover 90% of the mid lane matchups.

Today's will be on Ahri. Each of these champion posts are divided into sections, and this post will probably be really long...so if you don't want to read it all, read the parts that look interesting. Onto the analysis

Fuck you, CNN

Today I'm going to break the promise I made to myself when I entered college, where I promised myself that I wouldn't talk about politics. Many people don't know this, but I was extremely close to being a political science major, instead of an engineer. But I've realized that its impossible for any one person to change the world at the magnitude that is required for an actual difference to be made. Therefore, my new goal is to change the world in small amounts, to the best of my ability. That's why I organize events- because I want to reach as many people as possible and make them happy. I've been ignoring some of the bigger problems in society simply because I know there is nothing I can do about them.

However, in some cases, the violation is so egregious, and it hits so close to home, that its impossible for me to ignore.

The Mid Lane and you: The Basics

Hello everyone! My name is Zach, summoner name OsirisLordofDead, and I play mid lane for the UIUC Team B for League of Legends. This is my first blog post here, the first of hopefully many, and I intend to write about mainly League of Legends and my specialty, all things mid lane. For my first post, I'm going to start off a series (not sure how frequent) where I will cover different things about the mid lane, ranging from broad topics, to specific things like champions, runes, or counter-picking. I plan to include a video of at least one narrated game with each post to demonstrate either the specific things talked about in the post or just show some general game play. Without further ado...

Wakfu and Dofus: An Alex Kogan Post as to Why You Should Watch This French Anime

The last thing you would think about when the topic of anime comes up is France. "France?" you might ask. "What do they have to do anime?" Well it's a good thing you've asked! You see, in my honest opinion, one of France's best areas is in animation!
War on the other hand...

Two semi-popular shows that you might have watched that were animated by French studios were Oban Star Racer, and Code Lyoko. However, in the rough of modern animation there is still a hidden gem that France proceeds to pump out. These are the series known as Wakfu and Dofus!

Comic Books in Real Life: The King and the Captain

Anyone who has talked to me (or heard me talk) for nearly any length of time has probably figured out that I’m obsessed with comic books. I will leap on an opportunity to relate anything I can to a comic book character, story, or idea. Well I've decided to try and do the opposite and explore ways in which comic books have affected the real world in ways even those of you who are not comic book fans like me can appreciate. I’m going to start with someone that I think it’s pretty safe to assume that everyone knows about: Elvis Presley.
You gotta love that smile
