Pokemon Crystal Draft Series #3: Making your team work

Well, it's been fun writing these posts for the Crystal draft, but now we've reached the last one in the series.  In this one, I will go over how to use the team you draft to its full potential.  Note that these are just suggestions, and that many Pokemon in Crystal have diverse movepools that allow them to adapt to their teams needs.  That said, let's dive right in.

Let's start out with Magneton.  Magneton is generally a very weak pick before the 5th round due to the fact that it requires the player to use their single Game Corner TM on Thunder for it.  Otherwise, it is stuck with Thundershock for the whole game.  This is further compounded by the fact that it takes a good chunk of the game to save up enough for the TM.  Add in the fact that he's only really good against Pryce and Clair, and Magneton looks pretty crappy.

Pokemon Crystal Draft Series #2: Building your team

Hello again, everyone!  Continuing from where we left off with the last post, it's time to learn how to build your team once you've picked your starter.  This is crucial to the draft, as a well-picked team will cover its own weaknesses and compliment its starter well.  Depending on your position in the draft, your picks will take on slightly different meanings as well.  Lastly, while it is important to have some semblance of a plan going into the draft, it is best to have a flexible team in mind and to be able to adapt quickly when a Pokemon you want is taken.

So without further ado, let's talk about second round picks!  For players drafting in the last 3-5 slots of the draft, second round picks are the partner to their starter, and the only "good" Pokemon they are guaranteed to get for the first three gyms.  For this reason, a lot of thought must be given to the combination of the starter and the second round pick.  For this draft, my second round pick was Lanturn.  This paired well with Dunsparce because Dunsparce can handle the first three gyms by itself but has trouble with gyms 5-7, while Lanturn sweeps those gyms with little trouble.

Pokemon Crystal Draft Series #1: Picking your starter

Hello, everyone!  I'm writing a series of blog posts to give tips to players in our Pokemon Crystal Draft.  The focus of this guide will be the first round of the draft, in which each player picks their starter.

In many ways, one's starter will determine the type of game the player will play, and certain starters can drastically change the difficulty of the run.  For this discussion, we will break them up into 4 categories: burn, beatdown, buildup, and borrower.  We'll start with the burn starters: Pidgey, Growlithe, and Spearow.

Good Thing, Bad Thing: Spiderman

Hello everyone, Kieran here, it’s time for another Good Thing, Bad Thing.

The Spectacular Spiderman (2008-2009)

In a nutshell: my favorite incarnation of Spiderman in any media, ever.  I like this better than any Spiderman show, movie, or comic, ever.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room. Yes, yes, yes. I know, the art is pretty terrible.  It’s what turns off most people at first.  It’s what turned me off at first.

Trust me, you get used to it pretty fast.  I actually think the art style works really well for most characters.  There are a few characters though, *cough* Doctor Octopus *cough*, that just don’t fit the art style.
